Abbreviations:

Ch- Chain

Sc- Single Crochet

Fsc- Foundation Single Crochet

Dc- Double Crochet

Special Stitches

V-St- (Dc, Ch 2, Dc) in indicated stitch.

Shell St-(2 Dc, Ch 1, 2 Dc) in indicated stitch.

To make the Victorian Stitch, start by chaining a multiple of 3.

Row 1: Sc in the 2nd Ch from hook and in each Ch across. Turn.

Alternately you can Fsc a multiple of 3 + 1. Turn. This is my preferred method.

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as a Dc). Dc in the second St.

Skip the next St, (Dc, Ch 2, Dc) in the next St (V-St created).

*Skip the next 2  St, (2 Dc, Ch 1, 2 Dc) in the next St (Shell St created).

Skip the next 2 St, V-St in the next St.*

Repeat from * to * until the last 3 St. Skip the next St. Dc in each of the last 2 St. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 3. Dc in the second St.

Skip the next St. *Shell in the Ch 2 space.

Skip the next 3 St, V-St in the Ch 1 space*.

Repeat from * to * until the last 2 Dc. Dc in each of the last 2 St (the last Dc will be in the top of the Ch 3 turning chain).

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until desired length.
