The Inspiration behind The Journey Farmer’s Market Bag + Design

It’s that time of year again. Time for farmer’s markets, beach trips, and outdoor excursions. And obviously time to make your new favorite carry all, reusable bag.

Introducing the Journey Farmer’s Market Bag, the most stylish and functional crochet bag you will ever make! Starting with half double crochet stitches you will work in the round to create a sturdy circular base, before moving on to the remainder of the bag. The lacy details are created using a treble crochet variation of the Victorian Stitch which allows this bag to be worked up in just a few hours! Who doesn’t love a quick and easy functional crochet project?

If you aren’t familiar with the Victorian Stitch, don’t worry. I have a very detailed beginner friendly stitch tutorial to walk you through step by step.

The Yarn

Another great thing about this farmer’s market bag is that it can be worked up in a variety of different types of yarn. I made my version using left over portions of yarn from my Aurelia Tee. Both of the yarns used are a category 3 light weight yarn. I have also worked up a version using Red Heart Nylon Crochet Thread, which came out very durable and sturdy.

I would suggest using a yarn fiber that is more durable like cotton, Pima cotton, a tape/ribbon type, or even nylon.

To Add Rope Handles

Measure approximately 35” of rope. Tightly wrap tape around the rope where you plan to cut. Cut in the middle of the tape, leaving both ends of rope wrapped in tape. Repeat for the second handle.

If your rope is a little thinner, like mine, then you can cut 4 pieces of rope instead of 2 for a sturdier handle.

From inside of the bag out, thread rope through the handle holes and place a washer on each end of the rope.

Tie a tight knot in the rope at each end of the handle. Repeat for the second handle.

Tie off, tuck in those ends and enjoy your new Journey Market Bag!
