Inspiration + Design Behind the Summer Crochet Tank

Now that May is here, I think it’s officially safe to start working on your summer handmade wardrobe, and I’m thrilled to be bringing you my very first tank of the year. You might be thinking that this crochet summer tank looks quite familiar to you, and that’s because it’s the next design in the Haven Pattern Family. The Haven Tank uses the exact same stitch pattern as its sister sweaters, except it’s made with a light weight yarn, making this tank airy and perfect for those summer days.

The Yarn

One of the things that makes this summer crochet tank so special to me, is the yarn! If you’ve been following along with me over on Instagram, you probably know that I’ve recently started venturing out into the world of hand dyed yarn. And dyeing yarn is kind of like crocheting, once you start, you just can’t get enough.

And this tank is the very first design that uses my own hand dyed yarn! Exciting right?! We actually created this “Funfetti” colorway specifically for this summer crochet tank. We wanted a color that was fun and summery, but not too bold and bright. And I think we nailed it. The Yarn base is a category 3 light weight yarn made with 49% Bamboo and 50% cotton, which is my favorite fiber of yarn. It works up so nicely and feels great on your skin, not to mention the beautiful drape.

I will be offering a pattern kit, which will include the skeins of hand dyed yarn, plus the printable PDF, in the very near future. So be sure to keep your eyes open for that announcement.

To Sum it up:

The Haven Tank is a Summer Crochet Tank that is made seamlessly in the round from the bottom up. The unique extended stitches paired with a light weight yarn make this tank perfect for those hot summer days. Don’t let the look of this crochet summer tank intimidate you, it uses all beginner friendly stitches and if you need a little extra help, I have included a detailed photo tutorial in the Inexpensive Ad-Free PDF.
