Inspiration + Design

I absolutely love designing tops! All kinds, from sweaters to cardigans to tees and tanks, you name it; I love making it! So I knew the next design I wanted on my hook was of course going to be a top.

I have a very particular style of clothes that I enjoy wearing. I even have a handful of the exact same style shirts just in different colors; I just can’t get enough of them. So, when I set out with this new design, I knew I wanted to model it after my favorite Tees.

One Design, Two Separate Styles

I wanted this Crochet Tank Top to be lightweight, versatile and something that everyone would love to have in their Handmade Wardrobe!

This design is unique in that you can choose to make it one of two ways……. or you can make both!

It can be made as a tee or a tank! How great is that?!

The Yarn

For this Crochet Tank Top, I used Lion Brand’s Coboo Yarn. It is a blend of 51% Cotton and 49% Rayon from Bamboo!!!! Coboo has been a huge hit this year and I can absolutely see why! The Bamboo gives this yarn an incredibly silky and smooth texture, which results in the most beautiful drape!

And the color palate for this yarn is absolutely perfect. They are all muted and more modern shades that can be paired so easily! My favorites are Mauve, Peach, Tan, Taupe, and Olive, but there are so many beautiful shades to choose from!

Construction

Lay your panels on top of one another with right sides facing each other. Using your yarn needle and the yarn tail, seam the shoulders together using the mattress stitch.

Once you have your shoulders seamed, cut a piece of yarn about 3 times as long as your side seam. Place a stitch marker on your top marking where you want your seam to stop and your armholes to start. You will be seaming from the armhole down towards the bottom.

A good place to begin your seam is Row 47 then seam down to Row 13. This will create the side slits.

Tie Off, Tuck in those ends and enjoy your new Wren Tank!

I’m really nervous about making a small or medium. I just made a top in small and I’m not sure it would fit even if I lose a few unwanted lbs. I’m 5’1″ 125 now, but need to lose at least 5-8 lbs. I’m not 36″ in the bust, but have squared shoulders. Any thoughts on sizing?

        May 14, 2020 at 7:20 pm

I think it depends on how you want it to fit. The only reason I think you should make a medium is if you have a larger bust size than 36” or if you want your top to be very loose fitting.

Loving this tank and project so far! Can you give approximate inches for the project? Currently working on the front panel in a Small and it’s at 32” with the 43 Esc, and that’s just the front. Seems a bit big even for a flowy top.

Hi! For the size small each panel should be approximately 18” wide. Make sure to check your gauge for proper fit.😊

Hi, I’m loving this pattern and the stitches are so much fun to make. I’m working the front panel row 60 says I should have 8esc and row 61 in the small size skip 1st space and I should have 10esc. If I have 8esc from row 60 and I keep decreasing at row 61. I’m left with 7Esc. What is the correct stitches I should have in row 61 Small size.

      May 30, 2020 at 10:29 am

Hi! On row 61 the XS size drops off and has its own instructions. So the size small instructions are now the first number. Written (S, M, L, XL… etc). Row 61 size small will have 7 Esc. 😊
