The Weekender Sweater~ Free Crochet Pattern
A High Low Cropped Sweater~ The Weekender Sweater is a Free pattern for Make and Do Crew here on the blog!
If you have been hanging around the Crochet World for any length of time, you have probably; and by probably, I mean most definitely, heard of the Great Make&Do Crew! I mean, Jess is a legend in the maker community!
Needless to say, when I saw her announcement calling for guest designers, I was immediately intrigued!
Getting picked as a Guest Designer seemed like a long shot, but I Decided to Take a Risk and Apply Anyways!
After many weeks of waiting for a response, I opened my email one morning and there it was; the elusive email from Make & Do Crew! I think I almost stopped breathing!
Once I finally got myself together, I started brainstorming ideas for the most important project of my new design career.
I knew this experience was going to be just the push I needed to help me gain confidence as a brand new designer!
The Inspiration
I have always loved the look of crochet and knit garments. There is just something about the way each of the individual stitches comes together in perfect harmony to create a top that looks perfectly modern and timeless all at once.
When I was new to crocheting, I would look at all the beautiful crocheted sweaters, cardigans, vests, & tops and think to myself, “I could never make that!”. And I honestly believed that!
Last year I finally worked up enough courage to attempt my very first crocheted sweater, and it was none other than The Dwell Sweater by Make & Do Crew!
My eyes had now been opened to a whole new world; a world full of handmade clothes!!!! I now knew that crochet garments didn’t have to be as complicated as I originally thought. And from that moment, I knew that I wanted to start designing my own beginner friendly garment patterns.

Sometimes, simplicity is Best!
The Design
I know just how intimidating it can seem to make your own clothes. I’ve been there, remember? I also know that you, yes, YOU, can do it!
I want Crocheters of all skill levels to feel confident making my designs!
What makes This High Low Cropped Sweater unique, is that is is made holding two strands of yarn together, instead of the standard one strand. Then, to add a little extra texture and style, all the stitches are made in between the stitches from the previous rounds, which creates a more cohesive knit like look.
I have learned so much throughout this design process, and I have gained more confidence in my design skills than I thought possible. I would like to thank Jess and everyone over at Make & Do Crew, as well as LionBrand Yarn for making all this possible.
And of Course a Huge thank you to all my Amazing Testers, who worked so hard making sure everything was just right!

February 1, 2020 at 12:05 amIt is beautiful and I like the different colors also. I have a question. Is the Alpaca yarn machine washable and dryable? I do not like to have to lay flat to dry because I don’t have the space. Thank you. Phyllis

February 5, 2020 at 3:24 pmHi! I am glad you like this sweater! If you used only one strand, it would change the gauge. So just be sure to check the gauge as you work the pattern. 😊
